What a beautiful couple..... Sarah was such a joy to work with while planning her wedding. You can see her sweet smile and bright personality in these lovely photographs taken by Laura' Focus Photography. Bart you are a such lucky fellow!

Our entire staff loved her color palette. The purples mixed with the chartreuse green were a fun twist on the traditional fall colors scheme.

Another special touch was that Sarah and Bart shared the beauty of their special day with others here in our community. After the celebration weekend we were able to re-purpose many of their lovely flowers as unexpected "brighten your day" gifts to the residents at The Woodlands Nursing Center. Winter Wedding

Rebecca and Jake were married this past weekend at The Homestead. Rebecca carried this soft winter white bouquet.

Created with "eskimo" roses, fluffy white hydrangea and accented with glittery miniature pine cones, silver ruscus and "white diamond" limonium this was the perfect winter wedding bouquet. The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of this hand-tied design.

Jake wore a single "eskimo" rose while his groomsmen wore simple boutonnieres of miniature pine cones and accent foliage.

It was a very clean crisp elegant look.

Fall Open House Weekend

Thanks to everyone who stopped in this past Friday and Saturday during our Fall Open House. We had a great time visiting with our friends and customers who were able to pick up some great buys.

The Christmas preview was well received. The 2010 themed trees are up and we will have a peoples choice vote to decide which is the favorite look this season. You are invited to come on down and try to decide which tree you like best. For those of you who follow us on line, we will post photos of each tree and then you can cast your vote via email. The ballots will be drawn from each week. If your ballot is chosen, you will win an item from your nominated tree as our gift to you for your participation.

We are especially grateful to some our of fellow Clifton Forge merchants who supplied delicious refreshments.

Heirlooms of Clifton Forge brought in a wonderful dish called "French Quarter Cheese". This was a mouth watering blend of sweet and savory - thanks to Demitt for her great recipe. Heirlooms also shared chocolate chip and sweet sugar cookies - Yum!

The Club Car graced us with some of their gourmet homemade cookies! After much fighting with the staff, we got them out on the refreshment table. The History of FTD

On August 18, 1910, fifteen American retail florists agreed to exchange orders for out-of-town deliveries. Originally called "Florists' Telegraph Delivery", FTD was the world's first flowers-by-wire service. Fifty-five years later, FTD expanded to include international transactions. The company was renamed "Florists Transworld Delivery" to reflect its growing worldwide presence. In 1914, FTD adopted the classic figure of Mercury as its official logo. With worldwide visibility, the gold "Mercury Man" is one of the most recognized logo in the world. It has become the floral industry's emblem of quality.

Lavender and Lace

Lavender roses were the star of this bouquet. Created for a 10 yr. vow renewal, the pastel colors are pure romance. Pink lisianthus, lavender roses, white alstroemeria and delicate Queen Ann's Lace are bound together with crisp cream satin ribbon.

This smaller tussie mussie was designed for the daughter to carry. She was upset that she couldn't be in Mom and Dad's wedding, so they re-tied the knot! This time, I'm sure she stole the show.

Chic Pink "Miranda" Roses

Lucia had wanted the look of pink peonies for her August wedding. As they were out of season we suggested the next best thing. Fully opened multi-petaled garden roses. These luscious pink David Austin garden roses named "Miranda" were the perfect choice. The bridal bouquet was created of the "Miranda" and "Escimo" variety of roses then bound with ivory satin ribbon in a classic hand-tied bouquet.

The attendants bouquets were a simple elegant collection of the "Miranda" and "Sophie" roses. You can't even imagine how strongly scented these bouquets were once warmed in the hands of the beautiful bridesmaids. Most roses have a subtle scent, but these garden roses were truly delicious!

This orb of roses and hydrangea placed atop the center seating area of The Jefferson Parlor set the stage for the lovely reception to follow.

The centerpieces were collections of flowers and candles. A trio of vases each filled with one variety of flowers made the centerpieces very clean crisp and classic the perfect compliment for the Crystal Ballroom.

Peony Rose Wedding

Romantic pink majolica petite garden roses, fragrant peonies and lush hydrangea were the perfect floral choice for this bride and groom. Celebrating their wedding at The Homestead with it's grand southern charm in early May, who could ask for more.

This clever bride used the petite julep cup design to adorn the chairs along the aisle during the ceremony. After the ceremony these were then removed and placed as a center pieces for the head table at the reception. What a great opportunity to stretch that wedding budget.

On May 15, 2010 one of our weddings took place in the lovely Shrine of the Sacred Heart Chapel just near The Homestead resort.

The wedding was intimate, just for a few family and friends. The altar and pews were adorned with white flowers. Roses, lilies and orchids were the blossoms of choice. Perfect for this quaint chapel with the most adored priest. Father McGinnity is truly a beloved treasure.

The Bride arrived with a small arm bouquet of pastel roses. As she walked down the aisle she added to her bouquet with roses the guests had selected on arrival. Her groom then aided in tying the additional roses into the bouquet when she met him at the altar. How romantic!

Calla Trio Bouquet

Country Garden Florist created this classic trio of callas for one of our brides earlier this Spring. This bride wanted a simple look that was also sophisticated.

To create this bouquet, we simply gathered the trio of callas in a pleasing arrangement, then added folded aspidistra leaves to frame the design. We then added a bit of silver bullion to braided lily grass for a touch of the unexpected to make this bouquet truly unique.

Kelly and Randy choose delicate wildflowers for the bridal bouquet and groom's boutonnière. They were married Saturday, March 27th at The Homestead. Fresh white tulips, alstroemeria and delicate cineraria blossoms were use to create just the right balance of wild and wonderfully romantic.

Cheers to the Chamber! The annual awards dinner was held last Saturday the 13th. We had fun creating these soft airy pool blue centerpieces for the Platinum and Gold tables. The decorative mesh fabric used to enhance each design also pulled the color of the linen overlays up through each design. Larkspur, lilies and ranunculus were the flowers of choice that crowned the gilded pedestals.

On the Bronze tables we added floating candles in cylinder vases filled with colored water. The addition of mesh fabric and bright underway lights gave each design texture and a warm glow to enhance the party atmosphere.

Congratulations to the award winners this year: Volunteer of the Year - James "Cheese" Smith; Educators of the Year - Cecilia Warden, Dr. Stan Willenbring, Mark Smith and Tina Fields; Co Business of the Year - Zachery Industrial and Covington Farm & Fuel; with the Dogwood Award going to Jack Mason's Tavern. Black Barcara roses were the stars of this romantic wedding last month at The Homestead. The couple loved the hip gothic vibe of deep red roses accented with black foliages and ribbon. The lovely bride with auburn hair, peaches and cream complexion looked stunning carrying this classic hand-tied bouquet.

Soft glowing candles were used on the tables amid a wreath of the elegant roses and black taffeta ribbon. Seeded eucalyptus and red hypericum berries accent these timeless designs.

My husband Jeff and I spent some time at The Homestead resort for the Fourth of July. No, we weren't lounging by the pool sipping cool drinks...

We were creating these fun red, white and blue balloon decorations for their festivities on the Casino Lawn. I'm not sure about Jeff, but I had fun. Sure it was hot and I was pretty melted by the time we were through, but I so enjoyed the kids (young and old) who stopped to watch.

If we are invited to provide balloons again next year, I'd like to get even more creative. We choose the columns on only a few days notice. They do always give such an impact.

This is a lovely basket arrangement that went out of our shop yesterday. I just had to post the picture.

The design studio can be so busy at times we do not get the opportunity photograph some of the wonderful custom flower arrangements that are created by our talented staff.

Kim Robison designed this for our customer who wanted to express her sincere thanks to the recipient. With bright sunflowers, fragrant roses and mixed summer blossoms, this basket composition was the perfect gift.

Kim has become a wonderful asset as a floral designer here at Country Garden Florist. Her fun sassy personality always shows in her exemplary design style.

Memorial Day

Hope everyone has had an enjoyable holiday weekend. We took the opportunity to take the day off and spend time with our families.

As we enjoyed each other today, we also took the time to reflect and remember our friends and family who have served in the armed forces to protect our freedoms.

My father spent WWII in the Figi Islands as a medic, while Jeff's dad, Jim flew B22 bombers in Europe and India. Although they are no longer with us, we are very proud of the years they dedicated to the service of our country. Jeff himself served in the National Guard for several years.

I also have two brothers who have served, my oldest brother Charlie, in the Army and my brother closest to my age, John, who served in the Navy. I just want to say Thank you not only to our family, but to every man and woman who has served and is serving our country in the armed forces.

We must not forget FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE.

The lovely Easter lilies are in and dressed for sale. We have them starting at $20 and up.

Some of the girls here at the shop are a bit allergic, but I truly love the scent. The trumpet shaped blooms are the ultimate herald of Spring.

One tip I would like to share. If you bring home a pretty lily that has not fully opened, be sure to remove the pollen that is on the stamens inside each trumpet shaped blossom. This will prevent the pollen from staining the crisp white blossoms and by getting rid of them before they become "fuzzy" it will inhibit the pollen that could become airborne.

Today we are reflecting on last weekend's beautiful wedding. We were thrilled to create the bouquets and body flowers for Miss Gray Boyd's wedding on Saturday.

This was the bridal bouquet featuring white blossoms of lisianthus, tulips, hyacinth and hydrangea. Gray brought in feathers from the farm to incorporate into our designs.

This is one of the bridesmaids bouquets. They were very sweet with bright spring colors of daffodils, tulips, iris, hyacinth and muscari. These also featured the fiddle head ferns and feathers from Gray's farm. The stems were bound in simple ivory satin.

Now we are preparing to receive our shipment of Easter Lilies from the greenhouse. So by tomorrow morning the shop will smell wonderful. Come on by and see how lovely they are.
